Are you used to celebrating the holidays in your own home or do you often travel to visit family?

For the last number of years we have alternated between staying home one year and traveling to visit our children the next. With all four of our grown children now living in the Pacific Northwest it is nice because if we go visit the PNW we can spend Thanksgiving with all of them. We’ve had several Thanksgivings over the years where we would rent a house for the long weekend and we would all gather for a special Thanksgiving meal.

It was always fun because you were never sure what the rental house would provide, would there be a well stocked kitchen or would we be scrambling to find a large roasting pan to cook the turkey?

This year we are spending the months of November and December in Portland, Oregon. My daughter will be hosting Thanksgiving and we may do something different this year like a brunch!

That way we are not in the kitchen all morning but instead can enjoy a nice meal together and still have time to venture out for a hike! Much as I love traditions I am always open for new suggestions! After all what’s important is spending time with those you love and enjoying each other’s company!
I hope whatever your plans are for Thanksgiving you are spending the day with friends and family!
We had our Thanksgiving a couple Sunday’s ago. Whew! I plan on taking Thursday off and doing exactly what I please. 🙂 Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Nancy!

We are spending the second Thanksgiving in a row on a vacation to Los Angeles to get some sun and watch a lot of college and pro sports. Last year we ate in a renowned cafe. The line was long so we had high expectations, but the food was really poor. This year friends from when we lived in the area have invited us to their home for dinner and to spend the night. We appreciate the invitation but feel like we are imposing at a family time. But they seem to be excited, so I’m sure it will turn out all right. – Margy

Margy,
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Some of our best memories are when we were living far from any family and got together instead with good friends.

You are absolutely right, it doesn’t matter where you celebrate, it’s who you celebrate with! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your daughter and her family, Nancy. We celebrate Thanksgiving in October in Canada so I usually have a celebration here in the UK on that day. This year we celebrated American Thanksgiving with an American friend and her family too, so it was really lovely!
