We’ve now been back home from our road trip for almost two weeks and I’m finally feeling like we’re back in the regular routine. Well as regular as it can be. My husband was laid off in December, which was quite unexpected. As you know he works remotely from his home office. While on our adventure in the Pacific Northwest he continued to work for the same company he’d been with for over four years. Unfortunately the company he worked for had nothing on the books for 2016, so they had to cut back and laid him off.
So although we are back home we’re not sure where we are headed in 2016! We’ve been in this place before which is one of the reasons I strongly believe in having a well-stocked pantry. While we are cutting way back on expenses I know we have enough food on hand to create many healthy meals!
Where will my husband look for a job? That is a big question! Do we become more involved in missions? Perhaps go into missions full time? There are numerous possibilities with The Keystone Project.
Do we look for work in the Pacific Northwest so that we can be closer to our four children? That is definitely a possibility.
Do I order seeds for the garden this year? Well, yes I will do that because even if we end up moving somewhere and I don’t plant a garden this year I will be gardening as soon as possible! Plus I want to plant my Ancient Seeds – Gete Okosomin as soon as possible!
This is a lot to digest as we begin 2016. I have to look at it as the Lord has closed a door and we’ll have to see where the next one opens! Meanwhile if you hear of anyone looking for an extremely talented graphic designer/art director/web developer please let me know!
Well, color me green and call me Kermit! I am in total envy of your beautiful pantry. I have food in the pantry, but yours is so pretty:) Portland is a good area for the skills you listed. Wherever you end up, wishing you many blessings.

This is a very difficult time for you guys, but I KNOW God is a faithful God and His promises are sure. Your testimony of trust and faith is going to minister to many in similar circumstances and your beautiful pantry is already an example of His provision plan. May you see His hand in the days to come and open a door that no man can shut!

OMG! I want a pantry like that! We live in Bay area and space is always limited. Even after owning a sfh I think the pantry in rental apartments was much better coz there was a pantry.. I don’t have one now :(.
Good luck to you and your hubby for future. Good things happen with good people! 🙂

Hi Nancy,
I’m very sorry that your husband lost his job. This is becoming a common theme these days. I recently heard that Wal*Mart is closing a lot of their stores. My goodness, did you ever think you’d hear that? It’s obvious that there are many people out of work who can’t afford to even shop at Wal*Mart.
Your pantry is lovely to look at. I can see all the hard work and love that you have put into your pantry.
I live in the Pacific Northwest (south of Portland, closer to Bend). I wasn’t born here, but I’m never leaving this state. Oregon has a lot to offer – and, we do not pay sales tax! Yippie-Skippy!!
I sincerely hope that everything works out for you and your husband.

Sometimes the fork in the road takes you to a life less traveled – and better! You never know, this might just be the best thing to happen. When Ray and I were young and had only one son, he lost his job as a grocery clerk. He went back to school, finished his degree, and ended up with a wonderful job as a Computer Programmer! So, I will be praying that you two find a beautiful new life – and wouldn’t it be great if it was closer to your kids!!!

That is a daunting start to the New Year, Nancy. However, as you do, I believe that these things often happen because God wants to lead us somewhere else. I’ll be praying for you both and hoping that what appears daunting now will actually be the start of something wonderful and a new, incredibly prosperous period for you both.
