Happy Birthday Son!

Happy Birthday

Our youngest son, Andrew, was born during the famous No Name Storm twenty-five years ago. At the time we were living in Florida and as a result of the storm we almost didn’t make it to the hospital. It was an exciting ride to the hospital to say the least! Transformers were blowing up and streets were flooded. I was sure I was going to end up giving birth in the car. Thankfully we made it to the hospital and despite the crazy storm going on outside our son arrived in the world without any problem. It was an exciting first happy birthday! happy birthday

Happy Birthday
Andrew playing in the snow (right) with his brother during a March storm!

Since then almost every year around his birthday we have a storm. Especially after we moved to Vermont several years after he was born. Around every March 13th we would have a major blizzard. It made planning birthday parties so hard! Inevitably we would be driving off to a pool party or the bowling alley in a snowstorm. Luckily we live in Vermont and most folks are used to driving in snow. We were always wishing Andrew a happy birthday during a snow storm!

This year has been no different. Since March first we have had two major Nor’easters and it looks like a third one is on the way! Must be Andrew’s birthday storm! Happy birthday son!

We’ve often thought Andrew’s name should have been Stormy, in fact my father in law insisted on calling him Stormy for the first couple of years!Happy Birthday

It’s no wonder that Andrew has since left New England and now lives on the west coast. No more enjoying major blizzards on his birthday. However we still live in Vermont and we’re still enjoying the storms on Andrew’s birthday each year! We may not be enjoying cake or birthday parties on Andrew’s birthday but we still have the snow!Happy Birthday

Happy birthday son! We’ll enjoy the snow for you!

  1. What a wonderful post and today is the 95th birthday of our favorite Floridian gentleman. He is such an inspiration so today is a good day for birthdays. And even though you’re experiencing another storm — Florida is having unusually chilly weather!! Wishing your son a happy birthday.

  2. Interesting story. I don’t remember that storm. March brings very unpredictable weather for sure. Living in Wisconsin, I get frustrated when everyone starts talking about spring and spring fashion in February. We don’t see any signs of spring here until April or May. I can’t even imagine having spring in February. That would be nice.

    1. Amy,
I totally agree we never see spring until April or May and no planting in the garden until Memorial Day!

  3. Just so sweet and that picture of your son in that high chair is simply precious!! Happy Birthday, Stormy! We are actually kindred spirits. I was born during a major rain storm complete with thunder and lightning that actually touching the ground. My mom says she and my dad almost did not make it to the hospital because of the storm. Till this day, I love inclement weather. Be it rain or snow, I feel so relaxed and fulfilled with a good storm. I don’t like fierce winds or lots of lightning but if folks would not flood, I could watch it rain for days. Great article.

Loved hearing that you were also born in a storm! I’ll never forget my ride to the hospital that night! 🙂

The older I get the less I like snow! Very pretty to watch coming down but the shoveling and driving in it is no fun!

  4. Happy Birthday to your son, aka Stormy! It sounds like an exciting birth. You’ve been getting hammered with nor’easters haven’t you! We’re in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and have seen very little snow. March can bring surprises though!

  5. What a coincidence that Andrew’s birthday is always stormy considering he was born during a storm! This is a lovely tribute to your son, Nancy. My son is 25 years old this year as well!
