The Self Reliance Challenge Has Come To An End

The month of May was a wonderful month. Spring is here and the world around me is busting in green. May was also the month I joined a dynamic group of bloggers for the Self Reliance Challenge! 31 Days to A More Self-Reliant Life. I hope you read along as we all challenged ourselves to live a more self-reliant lifestyle for the entire month of May.Self Reliance Challenge

Many of the bloggers had specific goals they wanted to accomplish during the month. You can check out there progress on their blogs:

AnnMarie – 15 Acre Homestead

Nancy – Nancy On The Homefront

Kathi – Oak Hill Homestead

Robin – A Life in the Wild

Candy – Candy’s Farm House Pantry

Farmgal – Just another Day on the Farm

Ashley – Practical Self Reliance

ShawnaLee – Homegrown Self Reliance

Frank – My Green Terra

Maria – Maria Zannini

Lisa Lynn – The Self Sufficient HomeAcre

I am currently in a different mode as our house is on the market and although the real estate market is slow in Vermont we have to be prepared that the house could sell at any time. Now is not the time to be stocking up my pantry!Self Reliance Challenge

However I still was able to focus on what it means to be self reliant and go about my normal business of planting our garden and making our own bread.Pioneer Bread, self-reliant

I may not have a well-stocked pantry at this time but I do have several weeks worth of food on hand just in case of an emergency.Self Reliance Challenge

The month of May provided me with the time to focus on our goals. I intend to continue to live a self-reliant lifestyle no matter where we end up living. We may downsize and not have as much land but I still intend to grow as much of our own food as possible and have chickens to supply us with fresh eggs. If we can’t raise our own meat I intend to purchase from local farmers who do raise their own chickens, pork or beef.self-reliant

Did you follow us along in our journey? What are you doing to save money, grow your own vegetables, preserving your harvest and cooking from scratch? If I can help you in any way don’t hesitate to reach out.

  1. Your homestead is beautiful, Nancy! I would love to move there. 🙂 Unfortunately Vermont is probably not in our future as a home state. Best wishes with your home sale!

I’m so glad you could join us for the challenge!

    1. Lisa Lynn,
I think the challenge should be a yearly thing!! (hint hint). I enjoyed the challenge even if we are planning move! 🙂

  2. Hey Nancy! I really enjoyed all of your posts throughout this challenge. I recently moved, (from a tiny house to a bigger house on the same property), so I hear ya when you say you couldn’t do too much. My pantry looked more like Mother Hubbard’s cupboard when I was done with the move. Looking forward to working with you again in the future! Good luck in your house finding journey!

I really enjoyed the challenge even if we are preparing for a move. It was fun to read the other posts and see how everyone else was doing the challenge!
