Cut down on plastic bags with this simple cloth bag. It will help keep vegetables fresh, letting them breathe and absorbing excess moisture. I had some extra muslin from another project and it took me no time at all to sew this veggie bag! I now have two ideas for homemade Christmas gifts for next year; dryer balls and these veggie bags!
Materials
½ yard of 100% cotton cheesecloth, gauze or coarse muslin, at least 21 inches wide.
Ruler or measuring tape
Pencil
Sewing thread
Sewing Needle
Sewing Machine (optional)
On your material draw a rectangle 21” wide and 15 ½” long. Mark ½ “ seam allowances along the sides and bottom. Mark two ½” hems along the top. Cut out the rectangle. Press under ½” twice along the top edge, for the hem. Using a 1/8 ” seam allowance, stitch the turned inner edge. Fold the bag in half, right sides together, with the side edges lined up. Using a ½ “ seam allowance, stich down the side seams, pivot around the bottom corners and stitch the bottom closed. Press the seams open and turn right-side out.
If you cut several bags out at once you an easily make yourself many bags to keep on hand. I love the fact that these bags are reusable, just throw in the wash and use again!

I love this idea! Anything that helps reduce plastic!

Great and so simple. I was actually given some reusable veggie bags for Christmas and love how much I can use them again and again. I love in France and French supermarkets are gradually changing to produce bags made from maize (so less plastic) but I would still rather have something I can use time and time again and so uses less resources. #WasteLessWednesday
I too run a linky on the first of every month called Going Green and I would love it if you would like to join in https://eco-gites.blogspot.fr/2016/11/new-linky-going-green.html

I have a stack of reusable veggie bags and love them … only one cashier to date has turned theory nose up at them (Why I don’t know) and all the others have either said nothing or been really positive about them. #WasteLessWednesday

I’d like to share a hint I learned from an Australian blogger. /when you first use your bags go to customer service & have them weigh each one. Write the weight on each bag & label it TARE (permanent ink). That way you’re not paying extra for the bags. I also make my bags longer for things like celery & romaine. Happy savings.
I really enjoy this Hop. Sandy in Calif.

Sandy,
Great hint, I do that with buckets when I go pick fruit from an orchard, makes sense to do the same thing at a market! Thanks for stopping by!
