First of all I apologize to those of you that tried to take my survey yesterday on a smartphone or other mobile device, apparently it only works on a laptop or a desk top. I’m learning.
Spring is always such a busy time of year. There is yard work to be done and gardens to be planted and the weather doesn’t always corporate! Here in Vermont we often still have occasional chilly night in the early part of June. Memorial Day is the traditional weekend for putting your garden in. But you do have to keep an eye on the weather because tomatoes do not like cold nights and may need to be covered!
At Nancy On The Home Front we are loving the month of June! The garden beds have all been weeded and pretty much planted. I’m trying a new bean this summer thanks to a reader from Georgia! He sent me some heirloom Butterbean Lima Bean seeds to try. Hopefully they will do well in my Vermont garden.
When the weather is nice there is nothing better than enjoying a nice dinner on the deck after a full day of working in the garden.
We’ve also removed four old raised beds and tilled the ground under and planted grass seed. It looks so much nicer as the raised beds were just built with old pine boards and were beginning to rot. We will do fine with our eight raised beds, after all there are only the two of us and I am not filling the pantry this year.
I have weeded and mulched our blueberry bushes and given them all a little pruning. Nice to see they survived the winter and are covered with blooms. Looks like another good year for blueberries!
The raspberries are also doing well. I transplanted them last year from an abandoned raspberry patch and they all survived. I have mulched the paths and placed straw around the bushes. Hopefully this will keep the weeds down!
Gardening seems to be an endless job. I never quite get caught up on all the weeding but we’re concentrating on the beds you see as you drive in our property. We want folks to have a good first impression if we ever get a showing on our home! Still have a ways to go! A few more weeks and everything will be in bloom.
I love Vermont in June; the hillsides have so many different greens in them. The flowering trees are bursting in color and the spring gardens are such a delight.
There are may things I will miss when we eventually leave this state. As the seasons pass I am trying to take photos of all the wonderful aspects of Vermont!

Such beautiful surroundings. I bet it is really gorgeous come fall when all the leaves are turning their vibrant colors.
Your gardens look wonderful and growing quite nicely. You have done a wonderful job. A lot of work but well worth it in the end.

I love when the gardens are all weeded and mulched, I’m almost there! Then I just have to stay on top of the weeds. Vermont is a beautiful state and you are right it is beautiful in the fall!

As beautiful as your home is and the surroundings, I don’t think I would ever be able to leave such a paradise place. your area, with your home tucked in among the trees is absolutely Gorgeous.

What a beautiful home you have Nancy. If I lived there I would want to stay all year long. But I guess the winters can get pretty harsh. Your garden is lovely and should add value to your home. Good luck with the sale. Where are you planning to move to?

We love our home even though we do have lots of snow in the winter! However all four of our grown children have decided to make the west coast (Oregon and Washington) their home so we are going to relocate ourselves!

I have enjoyed read your posts. And read you are moving to my neck of the woods. Does your family live on the west side of the Cascade Mountains or the east? I live near the Olympic Mts. in Washington (which is North). Here we typically we start planting outside Mother’s Day Weekend, except this year was so nice I started in early April. Good luck selling your house the pictures look beautiful.

WE have grown children living in Portland, OR, University Place, WA and Seattle, WA plus other family in Olympia, WA and Bellingham, WA. We’re not exactly sure where we will end up (waiting for the house to sell first) but more than likely Washington, maybe Gig Harbor or somewhere near the water. Washington is such a beautiful state!

Absolutely beautiful! Very inspiring. We live in an apartment and have tried container gardening in the past, but between the frogs and the downstairs neighbors not wanting a drop of water to touch their balcony rail, we have given up. Hoping for a home with a lovely yard to put in a garden. I love your raised garden beds!
